Telerehab: A Guide to Understanding and Expanding Your Online Practice

Course Description:

The healthcare evolution is underway. Modern technology is being adopted at much faster rates, which is vastly improving the access to care for many patients who might otherwise not have sought care. Telemedicine is here and with it, unprecedented levels of access to patients. Finally, the profession of physical therapy has an opportunity to capitalize and broaden its range while promoting education and the services we provide. This is a golden era for the profession to finally get in front of patients sooner to provide rehabilitative and preventative services before more costly interventions are performed. It is time for physical therapists to recognize the significance of the emerging telehealth landscape and how critical it is to establish a digital therapeutic presence.

This course is designed to give attendees a comprehensive knowledge of telehealth as it relates to physical therapy, and provide detailed information on how to expand a telerehab component within an existing practice or develop an exclusive virtual care clinic. Two panels of experts will join the speaker to describe the history of telehealth and its ongoing evolution, provide examples of different successful telerehab use cases with diverse populations, explore various types of online platforms in the market, discuss legal and legislative issues around the practice of telerehab, and instruct on best practices while providing online physical therapy.

Course Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Identify potential patient populations that would be appropriate for telerehab intervention.
  • Understand the characteristics of a successful telerehab visit to optimize the effectiveness and maximize the patient experience.
  • Understand the current and upcoming reimbursement options and legal concerns around incorporating a telerehab component into a physical therapy practice.
  • Design a plan for creating a solo telerehab practice or implement a plan for expansion within an existing traditional clinical practice.
